MegaTots - Preschool Movement Education
Our Movement Education & Gymnastics A ctivity for TOTS Program is designed to build a strong foundation of movement experiences for our youngest students. It is also meant to improve their self-confidence and enhance their self-esteem.
Each program level within MegaTots has its own unique aspects:
Infant (ages 12 months - 24 months): This class relies on the innate trust between child and parent to initiate the child into the diverse world of movement. As these 45 minutes of new adventures unfold; the class is engaged in interactive songs, dances, and age specific activities. This stimulating parent participation program introduces balancing, tumbling, hanging, climbing, and agility in a fun method, helping the children develop a love of physical activity.
Toddler (ages 2-3): At this age, a child is developing a wide range of skills at an astonishing rate. Parents are expected to serve as the link between the Instructor and the lesson goals and their child. This 45-minute class is characterized by more confident running, jumping on 2 feet, and an overall improved spatial awareness of their bodies. Our “little” gymnast feel great about themselves as they learn beginning gymnastics in a program filled with changing activities.
Pre-1 and Pre-2 (ages 3 to almost 5): At these levels, children continue to meet and master new challenges on a regular basis. Basic movement concepts are reinforced and expanded upon, and new skills are introduced as appropriate.
Pre - K (ages 3-5):
This 45-minute mixed class begins with an interactive warm-up stretches followed by music and movement. A relationship to movement and physical activity really begins to develop as the children discover their natural abilities and enhance their physical and cognitive development.
Kinder-Gym (age 5 / kindergarten): This level builds upon the basic concepts, and focuses on developing specific gymnastics and motor skills that will be used in both future gymnastics (GymStars) and other sports instruction.
Broad-based, child-centered lesson plans are created for each class. Skills and concepts are approached in a variety of ways. Special “theme” weeks are scheduled throughout the year (see Newsletter, Bulletin Board for schedules) to bring out each child’s creativity. Handouts are distributed regularly, with suggestions for parent reinforcement of learning.
KinderStars (age 5/minimum of 2 years prior experience): This program is designed to prepare students to go into the GymStar program the following year and is for children who have previously participated in our MegaTot program. Children will warm up on the main floor then have two (2) rotations of gymnastics events each class.
Kids In Motion (ages 1-5): This 45 minute open gym time provides an opportunity for a family to enjoy physical activities in a semi-structured class. Physical activity is an important part of your child’s life; it has tremendous impact on physical, intellectual, and emotional development. As adults, we have the responsibility to be role models for our children, sharing with them the pleasures and benefits of a physical active lifestyle.
CheerBears (age 3-5): This class is for the little cheerleader. The participants of this program will learn basic hand motions, jumps, cheers, pom dances and simple tumble skills. This class meets one time per week for 1 hour. Pom poms and other cheer accessories are available at the pro shop.
Funastics (ages 3-16): A class designed for the Home Schooler. This 1-hour class will enable the students to better understand their bodies, their physical limitations, capabilities, characteristics and needs, and their potential for performing in a variety of physical activities. This class utilizes the gymnastic equipment while balancing ball skills, individual and dual activities, team activities, relays, singing games, story games, games of low organization, nutrition and health.
GymStars
The GymStar program at Nittany is our progressive instruction of skills on all Olympic events for girls and boys. Students participate in a structured warm-up session at the start of each class to build strength, flexibility and a solid foundation. Weekly event rotations give students the chance to practice and learn skills on each event in a regular, systematic fashion.
Girls GymStar (age 6 and up): Our Girls curriculum is divided into four Levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum, and within each class level, skills are subdivided into levels. Students progression is tracked on their individual Progression Form and their NGA Progression Poster.
